Care and Maintenance

  • Initial preparation: Comes with a heavy coat of Food Safe mineral oil. wipe with clean dry towel or rag.

  • Cleaning: After use, clean with warm water and mild detergent. Dry thoroughly to prevent surface oxidation. Avoid prolonged soaking.

  • Rust prevention: Although 80CrV2 is tough, it is a carbon steel alloy and benefits from regular oiling. Apply a thin film of gun oil, mineral oil, or food-safe blade oil before storage or after exposure to moisture.

  • Sharpening: Maintain edge with a medium-to-fine stone or guided system. 80CrV2 accepts a keen edge—use 400–1000 grit for repairs and 3000–8000 grit for finishing. Stropping restores a keen, polished edge.

  • Handle care: Micarta requires minimal upkeep; clean with mild soap and water, avoid harsh solvents, and dry thoroughly. apply a light coat of food safe mineral oil to keep looking new. Minor surface wear can be smoothed with fine sandpaper if desired.

  • Sheath care: Kydex—wash with mild soap and water and dry. A light coat of mineral oil keeps the kydex looking new and helps prevent rust on the UltiClip..

  • Storage: Store in a dry, ventilated area. If storing long-term, apply a protective oil coating to the blade and avoid sealed plastic environments that can trap moisture.

The Axex delivers a small-footprint blade built around proven materials and veteran-informed design — a compact tool that performs when it counts.

All of our knives are named from cryptids. The Axex is from ancient Egyptian mythos. It is described as having the heavily muscled body of a feline with the head and wings of a hawk. The head was also adorned with what appears to be three curved appendages similar to the crest of a modern day rooster. Ancient Egyptians worshipped them as Gods.
